Duplicated content – the same content that appears on multiple unique URLs – is not welcome by search engines and can cause a serious drop in a website’s rankings. There are two types of backlinks, and they are internal backlinks and external backlinks. Google and the other search engines use image-recognition software as part of their search algorithm, so they know if those pictures have been used elsewhere before. The more your website gets passed around between users all over the country (or even the world), the more popular search engines will start to take notice of your website, and the higher up it will generally appear in rankings and results. There are a number of methodologies ranging from complex formulas including many different heuristics to more simplified models designed just to give you a sense of the opportunity.

Search engines work hard to give the user exactly what they’re looking for. There were ways in the past in which site owners could trick search engines into thinking their page was the best match to that search. Put that behind you. Search engines are getting much smarter, quickly. For Search Engines, backlinks help to determine the page’s importance and value (i.e. authority). Historically, the quantity of backlinks was an indicator of a page’s popularity. Images may seem like a straightforward component of your site, but you can optimize your use of them. All images can have a distinct filename and "alt" attribute, both of which you should take advantage of. When a webpage links to any other page, it’s called a backlink. In the past, backlinks were the major metric for the ranking of a webpage. A page with a lot of backlinks tended to rank higher on all major search engines, including Google. This is still true to a large extent. The search engine crawler analyzes the raw HTML form of a web page. If you want to see what this looks like, you can do so by using your browser to view the page source

Try to ensure the key phrase is an exact match to what the searcher will type into a search engine. This means phrasing your keywords in a conversational fashion if you want to optimize for natural language search queries For a long time Google looked at the name of a particular website and the queries that were entered and might rank that site higher if the domain name had some match with the query. Audit your site using tools such as Google’s PageSpeed Insights or Pingdom’s speed test to quickly compile a list of options to help give your site a little more zip. A site like Wikipedia has thousands of diverse sites linking to it, which means it's probably a popular and important site. SEO is the process of driving traffic from the ‘organic’, and ‘paid’ sources to win the rat race of ranking on search engine result pages (SERPs).

Not recommended: thin content pages

We asked an SEO Specialist, Gaz Hall, for his thoughts on the matter: "Google may penalize specific tactics, but they will never penalize quality." Don't deceive your users or present different content to search engines than you display to users, a practice commonly referred to as cloaking. Human users are already intrigued by your title; all that’s left to do is entice them to clickthrough with your meta description. A meta description is information, more in depth than your title, that will let users know what to expect when they visit your page. Google likes to pretend that great content, and great websites, will naturally acquire links. But for 99.999% of businesses, that’s terrible advice. People buy from businesses they trust, not businesses that publish low quality, untrustworthy content.

Using these tools will significantly speed up the process of coming up with long lists of keywords. Duplicate content can appear on a website for different reasons. Sometimes the same content is accessible and indexed under different URLs. This makes it difficult for search engines to determine the best search result among the different URLs. The result is “cannibalization” in the rankings. The website cannot appear in top rankings since Google is unable to choose the best version. Targeting highly sought-after keywords can make it harder for you to rank higher in search, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t become an authority on a topic by using different phrases for the same concept. The searches that people make online are related to certain words or phrases. Because you want your webpage to be the answer or solution to their search query, your page needs to be built with this phrase or word in mind. In social search, content that has a social connection to you in some way is prioritized. A social connection could mean someone you are linked to via Facebook, Twitter, or any other major social network. An infinite number of niches are waiting for someone to claim them. I’d ask yourself where you want to be, and see if you can find a path from a tiny specific niche to a slightly bigger niche and so on, all the way to your desired goal. Sometimes it’s easier to take a series of smaller steps instead of jumping to your final goal in one leap. Dominating the top rankings for general keywords related to your brand may be out of your reach, but even a slight investment in SEO can help your business earn more traffic and visibility.
