Low Word Count

There are plenty of rabbit holes to fall into when it comes to Google algorithm updates. You shouldn’t only target 1 keyword, even if you have a very small budget or think that 1 keyword covers everything that you do or sell. This is a mistake because unless it’s a highly searched for keyword, and if it is then the competition to rank well for it will be fierce and getting your site in the top positions for it very difficult, then ranking for that 1 keyword won’t attract enough visitors to your site. Backlinks are the so called “incoming links” that are created when another website links to your website, and sends new users and relevant traffic your way. Use simple and obvious terms that are easy to understand. Use descriptive captions and avoid generic captions such as 'Products' or 'Services'. You can and should use keywords that are related to your business in the captions as long as they make sense. Google has reduced the importance of keyword phrases and now places more importance on a variety of elements, appropriately called “on-page factors.”

Start mapping your SEO needs to pages

If the Google bot goes through your website and manages to access all sub-pages within just a few clicks, it can use its limited crawl budget to scan and index more pages. Optimizing the click path pays off for both usability and search engine crawling! Search engine do not give you links that are counted to your link popularity. You need to write content that others want to link to. And in my opinion, if you are not passionate about what you are writing, then it will be hard to get links pointing to your content. The best domain names are short, snappy,  include your best keywords, easy to remember, and easy to spell. Including keywords in your domain name will be useful for sites like Bing in particular that place great emphasis on including keywords. When website copy contains a wider variety of terms and keywords all relative to the same topic, it appears more natural, resulting in higher rankings. The content flows naturally, more like a conversation you might have with someone. Internal links help Google establish site architecture and relative intra-site importance of webpages. For this reason, you should have internal links both on a site-wide & on-page, in-content basis. The actual number of internal links per page will vary & depend on the utility offered to users (once again).

Avoid putting important content into your Flash elements

Go after more long tail and less competitive search terms if your website is too small to compete with the websites in the search results. Google is good at crawling all types of URL structures, even if they're quite complex, but spending the time to make your URLs as simple as possible for both users and search engines can help. It has long been understood that Google’s ranking algorithm is complex (by design). You can read an offsite SEO beginners guide here. Google Webmaster is useful if you want to know how many back links you have and who from, it allows you to view links to your site from other sites, and shows you which pages of your site are linked to the most. The main purpose of categories and tags are to help web visitors navigate your blogs quickly and easily, which in turn, help you get a better search ranking (if used properly). In a nutshell, categories are the table of contents for your blog, while tags are the index that helps a search engine to interpret your blog’s subject matter with ease.

Build a unique set of citations

According to SEO Consultant, Gaz Hall: "RankBrain and other machine learning systems examine user behavior to deliver the “best” search results possible. Unfortunately, what’s deemed best for one query might not be the best for another, which makes machine learning very difficult to optimize for." Your website’s health will not only impact your SEO results but will also have a hand in how well you’re able to convert your traffic. Stop words are the small words in your SEO phrase, such as up, with, is, a, etc. While it’s widely accepted as a best practice to remove these from your SEO phrase, sometimes removing them can actually hurt your SEO. For example, “What is a graco taco?” makes a lot more sense than “what graco taco.” So while many SEO plugins and search experts will advise you to remove stop words, sometimes it’s best to leave them in if they drastically impact the meaning of the phrase. Be your own judge. SEO success relies heavily on the keywords you choose to target. Finding that people from an unexpected search term are converting more highly than those from other search terms? Then it might be time to switch gear and start trying to rank for that phrase instead!

Estimate your contents longevity

User experience is the guiding benchmark for most search engines when ranking sites and pages. This means that crafting content is not enough. Search referrals are usually divided into organic (unpaid) and PPC (paid or pay-per-click) referrals. Search referrals are easy to filter by search engine but require a little extra effort to distinguish between unpaid and paid visits. Search referral data can be misidentified and faked. Search referral data may be reported within different parameters by various analytics tools; none of the tools are necessarily wrong. Don’t ask your customer for a review too early; they might not have enough experience to form an opinion about you. But don’t wait so long that the great first impression fades. This timing is different for every business and industry; so it might be worth experimenting to get the best timing. Even if your site hasn't lost any traffic over the years, if you find a bunch of technical errors, they could be keeping you from receiving all the search engine traffic you deserve. It's very possible that spending a day fixing these problems could pay off handsomely in the long run. User experience is in turn a very crucial factor when it comes to ranking a website. Users hate to wait and if you make them do it, they will leave.

If your website is listed for the right keywords, you will get many new customers

Reaching an international audience is an opportunity that is now available to small and medium businesses in a way that has never been possible historically. Google is making a real push to get to grips with any tactic they see as manipulating the rankings in a way that’s against their guidelines – from keyword cramming to paying for sponsored posts. The sitemap tells search engines about all the pages on your site, even those that might not be easy to find. A sitemap is very helpful if your site is dynamic or if it has pages with images or rich AJAX that can be hard for bots to discover. It is also helpful for new sites with few links, or sites that have numerous pages not well linked. Sitemaps help search engines do a good job of reading your website and finding your site’s content. SEO and SEM tactics are not disappearing any time soon, so why not use them to your advantage? There are a lot of people using search engines to look for what you have to offer, and in the area you are offering them in. If you optimize your meta descriptions with clear and attractive extracts on what potential visitors can find on your site, it becomes easier for them to see if the information they’re looking for is on that page.
